Raising approx. £500 for charity at my Boden Shopping Party

My Boden Shopping Party in aid of Cancer Research UK

After a chance meeting with Sarah Bell (Boden shopping party co-ordinator for the North West ) I found myself agreeing to host a Boden Shopping Party at my house. As a Personal Stylist who works for myself, I was wanting to hold an event to invite friends and clients to and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity to get everyone together to have a dress up and a pamper.

What I didn’t expect and was delighted at was the arrival of 500 Boden samples delivered to my house one wet Wednesday morning. The support and organisation I received from Boden was excellent.

And what a great idea – Boden entrusted me with all their beautiful garments for 24 hours and all I had to do was invite lots of people, allow them to try them these beautiful clothes and take their orders. 10% of which went direct to Cancer Research.

I couldn’t believe my luck, my house had turned into a shop, I was doing what I love to do: to share my passion, my experience as a personal stylist, working for over 30 years in the industry and styling hundreds of fabulous ladies. I was overjoyed and my husband was horrified !!!

And an even better idea was to make my shopping event benefit everybody and raise money for charity a win-win for everyone. So for every garment sold, Boden donated 10% to my charity and for brand new customers it was 15%.

In addition Boden sent generous raffle prizes and a spotty Boden apron for the first 30 customers !

A great fund raising package for which I thank them wholeheartedly.

Now to the clothes… the best bit!

Many of my personal styling clients came to the party for an update and some advice in choosing summer outfits. We had fun putting these outfits together with the variety of colours, textures, shapes and sizes all here under one roof – it gave me a unique opportunity to style outfits for all occasions.

I found to my delight that Boden clothing is excellent quality and well priced with a hefty 22% discount and free p&p – it was a great deal. Boden is only sold online or from the catalogue so the beauty of the party is that you can try them on for size and Boden send a variety of sizes. However, my only feedback is that there were hardly any size 12 trousers for people to try.

Boden specialise in colour which is great as there is often a shortage of brights on the high street even in the summer.

I loved this as I am going to be undertaking some colour advanced training this autumn and this highlighted how important it is when it comes to dressing my clients.

It was a great day which I think everyone involved enjoyed I haven’t even got to the refreshments: home-made cakes, nibbles, raffle etc.

We haven’t had a final figure of money raised but we think it is about £500 – I will update when it is confirmed.

Many thanks to all those who came, helped, shopped, baked and cleared up. It was a huge success and all because of your help xx

March Style Tips

Spring is on its way – now is the time to look around at the latest trends and decide which is your look for the season believe me there are plenty to choose from!

1. BEFORE you decide to hit the shops its a good idea to check out what is in your spring /summer wardrobe already. Have a good root around just to see what you bought last year its surprising how quickly you forget what you have.

2. Compile a shopping list so you know roughly what you are looking for i.e. tops, bottoms, shoes etc. that will stop you drifting around looking at everything and focusing on nothing !

3. Think about the whole outfit when you are trying on- March is a transitional month so you have to think about making the outfit work e.g.  footwear-does this dress look good with boots or better with sandals ?Will I be too chilly in this top do I need another layer and if so what – cardigan, one of the new silk blouson jackets ?

4. The humble sweatshirt has become a key piece this season, emblazoned with a slogan, embellished or plain wear it with a skirt jeans or over a dress for a casual slouchy look.Check out Anthropologie  www.anthropologie.eu Whistles www.whistles.co.uk or Zara www.zara.com for a good selection.

5.Lightweight silk bomber jackets are a great look for the summer slung casually over your shoulders they look super cool and casual.Have a look virtually anywhere on the high street and you will find one.Silk, printed ,textured they are a fun ,new look to add to your wardrobe!

February Fab Fashion tips

The way to cheer up a really miserable month is to plan how fabulous you are going to look…

1. By booking a wardrobe consultation with me you will end up with a bunch of fab new outfits you didn’t even know you had. Banish all drab and book here with me 🙂

2. It’s good to get out there and see what’s in the shops don’t be tempted to invest in too many spring items yet as I’m sorry to say the weather won’t let us get in to shorts and sandals for a while yet !!

3. Best buy for Feb (if you feel you have to have some retail therapy!) is a great pair of jeans that will see you through the year. Make the most of rain and go and try on lots of pairs of skinny, straight, boot cut, boyfriend, girlfriend. Top tip: don’t buy any until you have tried boots and shoes with them.

Yes it’s a complicated process but worth it when you get the perfect pair.

4. Have some fun with layering. We’ll show the weather we’re ready for anything!

Try a new look e.g. pretty vest, shirt, long cardigan, coat .

Or: polo neck, V neck, gilet, coat.

Or even: t-shirt, chiffon shirt, cardigan, coat.

There are endless variations on the theme and they can look stunning if you mix patterns prints and texture!

5. Top look for Feb? Is a crisp white shirt, cashmere sweater, statement necklace and those jeans. Perfect and it will take you anywhere!

January Style Tips

January can be depressing – dark nights, cold mornings, chapped lips and packing away the Christmas cheer.

I say take control of January blues with these easy style and mood enhancing tips!

1. Colourise…

Fight dark with bright and cheer yourself up by wearing some colourful jeans with a bright sweater. The knack is to find a warm cosy jumper but in a bright joyful colour.  Don’t forget that you can shine even if it is lashing with rain and wind outside.

Check out Jigsaw – they have a gorgeous array of wool and cashmere knitwear in lovely pastel colours.

2. But… do give up the glitter

However much you love sparkle it’s time to put it away. No-one wants to see you in your Christmas jumper in January it’s soooo last year! Take control of January and show it some style.

3. Book a wardrobe consultation

The new year is all about clearing out, re-organising and getting off on the right foot. But that it easier said than done. So let me help you clean up your closet, I can show you how to put together new outfits from what you already have and save you money without the need to buy even more clothes… (that you’ll never wear). I’ll let you have my top styling tricks and tips.

You will be amazed at what’s in your wardrobe when you get it ALL out. Even the things at the back. Once you have a really good look at it all and some advise from me on how best to utilise what you have, you will feel wonderful, promise.

4. Stay away from the Sales!

However much you like a bargain the best of them have gone by now. And you may fall into the trap of buying what you don’t need and ultimately, what you’ll never wear.

Save your money and wait for the first style drops in your favourite shops.

5. Skincare

Winter weather is so bad for your skin, the cold weather, the wind, the central heating that dehydrates your skin. A gentle exfoliating and moisturising facial is a wonderful thing. You will definitley come out with a glow and hopefully a new outlook.

And that’s it! Don’t let the winter drag on, take control of it by making a style statement and really enjoy a colourful battle with the blues. Good luck and give me a call if you would like any help.

Love,  Sylvia
